Northeast Tourism (NET)

Representatives of tourism organizations from each of the sixteen counties in North Carolina’s Northeast Region meet on a monthly basis to provide input and support for regional tourism marketing and promotion activities.  Our regional tourism professionals work collaboratively in supporting events and activities that increase visitor awareness of the diverse tourism opportunities in the Northeast Region.

Members of the NET group are tourism professionals from each of the sixteen counties in Northeastern North Carolina.  Each county recommends a representative to serve as their representative to the NET group.

NET meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 AM at the Northeast Commission office in Edenton, NC.  Nancy Nicholls of the Edenton-Chowan Chamber of Commerce serves at the NET Chair.

Tri-Regional Heritage Project

North Carolina’s Northeast Commission, North Carolina’s Eastern Region and North Carolina’s Southeast Region have partnered  to sponsor a heritage project in 38 counties in eastern North Carolina.  With funding from Golden LEAF foundation they have hired a consulting team to assemble a heritage assets database, write a conditions report for heritage sites, review marketing data, suggest new marketing approaches and prepare a feasibility study for a National Heritage Area designation.

These tools will help the entire region to assess strengths and weaknesses in their heritage tourism products and prioritize projects for potential additional funding, to understand the heritage tourism market as it exists in eastern North Carolina and to develop marketing strategies to promote the region; and will explore the feasibility of a federal designation that will not only brand the region but bring the possibility of federal funding and resources for heritage development and tourism promotion.

The visitncne regional tourism website is the only website that provides a one-stop site for tourists and group tour operators who are interested in visiting the region.  By providing a place to find all regional tourism information, we encourage visitors to travel off the main highways to find the treasures of rural northeastern North Carolina.  County tourism representatives to the NET (Northeast Tourism) group add their individual county information to the site allowing it to be fresh and accurate.  This project was made possible by grant from the NC Rural Center.
