Tri-Regional Heritage Project
North Carolina’s Northeast
Commission, North Carolina’s Eastern Region and
North Carolina’s Southeast Region have partnered
to sponsor a heritage project in 38 counties in
eastern North Carolina. With funding from
Golden LEAF foundation they have hired a
consulting team to assemble a heritage assets
database, write a conditions report for heritage
sites, review marketing data, suggest new
marketing approaches and prepare a feasibility
study for a National Heritage Area designation.
These tools will help the entire
region to assess strengths and weaknesses in
their heritage tourism products and prioritize
projects for potential additional funding, to
understand the heritage tourism market as it
exists in eastern North Carolina and to develop
marketing strategies to promote the region; and
will explore the feasibility of a federal
designation that will not only brand the region
but bring the possibility of federal funding and
resources for heritage development and tourism
promotion.
