Supplies of electricity in North Carolina’s Northeast Region are abundant for the future and service reliability is rated among the best in the nation. Water & Sewer

 

Communities in North Carolina’s Northeast continually update water and sewer infrastructure. North Carolina’s Northeast and its communities have benefited greatly from state wide bond referendums, the Clean Water Management Trust Fund, the NC Rural Economic Development Center, and Federal programs like USDA and EDA that have expanded water and sewer availability and capacity throughout the region. 

The North Carolina General Assembly recently appropriated over $100 million toward improving water and wastewater systems in North Carolina to support community and economic development.

Broadband

 

Most major business districts and employment centers in North Carolina's Northeast Region are served by fiber-optic based infrastructure. The overall coverage rate for high-speed Internet is 80.4% in the sixteen county area.

This infrastructure consists of SONET fiber optic ring technology connecting customer locations with serving central offices. Additionally, SONET ring architecture is used to connect central offices and multiple POP locations. Digital central office switches are used in major business districts and employment centers in the Northeast Region. Sufficient fiber infrastructure flexibility is available to provide customized fiber network arrangements to meet any customer's specific voice, data, or video needs.

MCNC has taken the lead to obtain federal and Golden LEAF grant funding to expand the broadband resources in NC's Northeast.  See the informational summary here.
