The marine industry has been a linchpin of the
Northeast Region’s economy for many, many years. As this industry as a
whole as undergone a metamorphosis in recent years, North Carolina's
Northeast Commission is focusing attention to several key opportunities that support the long-term growth
of the important sector.
Nationally-recognized boatbuilders such as Regulator Marine and Fountain
PowerBoats have found the ingredients for success in North Carolina's
Northeast--a proactive and supportive business climate, an abundant and
productive workforce, and efficient access to major suppliers and
service providers. A focused training program for boatbuilders at The
College of the Albemarle has helped provide a steady supply of trained
workers.
World-famous
custom boatbuilding focused in Wanchese and the
Oregon Inlet is a major placeholder in the
regional economy. This is where companies like
Davis Boats, Spencer Yachts and others have
flourished over the years.
With the projected growth of the boatbuilding
industry as a whole, North Carolina’s Northeast will use
its previous success in this business sector to nurture additional
investment opportunities. In comparison to other states, North Carolina’s environmental regulations
are attractive to existing boatbuilders from other states and countries
in the market for expansion opportunities.
North
Carolina’s Northeast Commission will focus on
the following activities to support the development of boatbuilding in
our Region.
-
Water-access site development for boatbuilding and marine-related
industries
-
Boatbuilding company recruitment and expansion
-
Marine supplier identification
